Decent pit stop, I'd say...
After leaving Marfa, TX I had a long day on the road planned to my Brother's in Phoenix. I needed to find a good break in the action. I had never been to Tucson and after doing a quick Google search, found Saguaro National National Park as a potential attraction.
Potential was an understatement. The Saguaro cactus tree, some of the largest you could ever imagine, decorated the entire region and are symbol of the Western US. I'm not exaggerating, some of these cacti were over 30 ft.
The park is broken off into 2 sections and to really enjoy them I had to get MOVING, as I was racing against daylight. If I had better prepared for this excursion I would have better taken advantage of the hiking and camping amenities throughout the park.
I'm not much for a gift shop person, but I would also encourage any visitors to go in and buy a jar of their various salsas. Fresh, spicy and delicious! They also have one of those penny-compressed coin machines (which worked as gifts to my Brother's kids upon my arrival to Phoenix)
From pit stop to incomparable scenery, Saguaro was not one to miss. Hope we cross paths again, but until then...I'm comin' home, baby.
