"Let the 4:19 Scratch My Back"

Dunn's Falls (Nov 2019)

I love traveling the backroads...

One of my favorite stops along my cross-country road trip was in Enterprise, Mississippi. @ Dunn's Falls, (now categorized as a water park) which sits along a hill of the Chunky River.

Upon arriving there was 1 attendant working the booth, and no other visitors...my kind of place!  I think my admission was $3, which came with some friendly banter and a few xerox'd notes about the land.  Although no one seemed to know the entire storyline of the property, they did know it was created in the 1850's by Irish Immigrant, John Dunn.  He channeled the flowing stream of water above to feed into the massive water wheel, which then functioned as a natural source of power.  At certain points in time the site functioned as a gristmill and the manufacturing of Stetson hats. (didn't see any leftover hats available)

Although the inside of the homestead required some reinforcement from sporadic 2x4's, the rugged exterior of the homestead stood proud as a testament to solid construction with the fewer resources available.  The combined smells of rust and wood were a testament to years of labor at the property.  The nearby trails could also be used for used for walking, camping, nature trips, and bird watching.

If you find yourself on I-59 in Mississippi, or just want to feel like you're in a Neil Young music video, Dunn's Falls is a great spot to enjoy a taste of Mother Nature and quality craftsmanship.
